Nicholas Kacher ’11 says developing a local currency can strengthen a regional economy and insulate it from the volatility of national and global forces. He tells the story of Berkshares, a local currency in use in Massachusetts’ Berkshires. The currency is a project of the New Economics Institute, for which Kacher has worked since graduating.
