Former Iranian United Nations ambassador, and Bennington College faculty member, Mansour Farhang, available to discuss Middle East

Bennington College faculty member Mansour Farhang served as revolutionary Irans first ambassador to the United Nations, resigning when the Khomeini regime refused to accept the U.N. Commission of Inquirys recommendation to release American hostages in Teheran. He also served as an envoy in negotiations with international peace missions early in the Iran-Iraq war. Farhang currently serves on the advisory board of Middle East Watch, a branch of Human Rights Watch.
His publications include: The U.S. Press and Iran: Foreign Policy and the Journalism of Deference, with William A. Dorman, 1987; U.S. Imperialism: From the Spanish-American War to the Iranian Revolution, 1981. Farhang is a frequent contributor to scholarly journals and national news media. On April 6, 2003 he appeared on CBS NEWS SUNDAY MORNING. His article, “A Triangle of Realpolitik,” was published in the March 17, 2003 issue of The Nation. He has been teaching diplomatic history and international relations at Bennington College since 1983.
